BIO ROBIN RADEK
ROBIN RADEK is a painter and blogger. She was born in Montreal, Quebc & was artistically inclined as a young child by two painters in her family. At age 13 she moved to London, GB, where she studied arts & classics. She gravitated towards Op & Pop art which were both commercially prevalent at the time , providing her with a vehicle for expression in later years. She has a BFA from Concordia, Montreal, Qc. in Visual Arts, including painting, drawing, silkscreen, multi-media, design, cinema, art education, and art history. She also has a printmaking certificate course in woodcutting & etching from the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. She has taken elements of different techniques, blending them together into a fusion of pop iconography, surrealism & expressionism.
She used Pop & Op art iconography as a way of transmuting her fractured, uprooted background & fluctuated between surrealist, expressionist & neo-cubist painting in the punk era, as a means to do this. This led to her present style. Her art was an attempt to make sense of her own internal landscape & the dystopian social & political world she inhabited. Her artwork is threaded with autobiographical references & icons of contemporary mainstream events. She often expresses these subconscious urges, impulses & repressed shadow aspects of the human psyche that one would rather bury. She is reclusive & likes to jump timelines & uses this blogger medium as a more politico-social platform. She has not exposed much as of late online, due to cyberbullying, but which has happily proven to be a very beneficial source of novel literary ideas.
Political, social & monetary upheavals dictate strange detours along one’s journey. It is all grist for the mill. One grows, learns, evolves, and adapts to fluctuating circumstances in the carnival of existence. She has had some small exposure in a rather inhospitable environment. The visual work tells part of the story & the blank verse tells the rest.
